hey anyone remember that rumored trade offer from boston this past summer? rondo and allen in exchange for stuckey prince and rip. i never heard this rumor disputed, so i'll assume it's true.

oh how this trade would have single-handedly cured all that's wrong with this dreadful team. an all-star point guard who poses a serious threat to arby's triple double french fry offer every night and $20 million coming off the books.

obviously we'd have been giving up more talent-wise (though perhaps not by as much as it seems, given our desperate need for improvement at the point), and i do consider rajon rondo to be a villain (ray allen to a much lesser extent), what with his scowl and attitude problem, but i think my distaste for him would have slowly passed, and the culture of this organization would surely have rubbed off on him at least a little. and we had no idea how quickly jerebko would be able to make tayshaun expendable. also i'd have to change my name, of course. but not to "rajon dominajon," i promise.

i can see it now. rondo allen gordon and bynum in the backcourt, jj and daye at the 3, and we could probably get whatever big man we wanted by trading allen's expiring deal before the deadline. what does everyone think?

is it worth having to rehabilitate villains like rondo and allen in order to have a much better team? a much much better team with none of our current problems or the ones we can reasonably expect in the near and far future? i say yes. a thousand times yes.

I think the Celts would have done that this summer, but not anymore.

Well, Hoopshype today says the C's are shopping Allen. I still don't see them parting with Rondo, the only consistent performer on there team at this point, and part of the very little youth the C's have.

I don't see the C's trading Allen for Rip either (not that the contracts work), b/c Rip is not much younger. If we included Stucky in the deal, I think it would be much more likely, but since we would still need $$, Maxi would have to be included and we would have to take back cheapies like Sheldon Williams and Bill Walker, so we would be doing this solely for cap space (which I don't see Joe D going for)

If we could get Perk or Rondo with Allen, I would trade anyone on the roster. A Prince + Hamilton + whoever makes the salaries work would be an interesting idea, and one that I'm all for if we get our center or PG position worked out...

* I still don't know if I would go as far as to trade Prince, Hamilton, and Stucky for Allen and Rondo/Perkins, because that leaves us thin at the off guard spot. I would definitely consider it.

While I do agree the Pistons have some desperate needs, it definitely aint in the back court. Any move that does not address the gaping holes in the front court (namely center)should be booed. Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum will do fine in the point guard position. I don't think Rondo is a significant upgrade over Stuck, because playing along side three future hall of famers in the eastern conference is bound to inflate any point gaurd's stats. KG is the only Celtic i'd ever want to see in Pistons blue, you can keep the rest of those lames. With that said I am looking forward to next season with a healthy team, the addition of a lottery player, and a big or two from free agency and/or trade. All that, especially the healthy part will greatly improve our team.

our backcourt is not "set." stuckey and bynum are not enough. we need a point guard BAD. much worse than you think. and also worse than you think, we desperately need to shed a shooting guard. i don't care who we add up front, if our guard rotation remains unchanged, expect us to suck. stuckey runs the most stagnant offense i've ever seen at a professional level, he looks lost, he doesn't make anyone better. bynum's a whole lot better, but still not enough. we need to address this.
